Five-Nines leaning and what's up.

Network infrastructure providers, phone companies and Software as a Service (SaaS), such as network equipment providers claim to provide 99.999% up-time or reliability. But how many people especially to know what that means 99.999% reliability comes at a premium price.

Five-Nines that it first reliability of the telecommunications industry.

In fact, what is claimed as the actuality of reliability is availability. What is the network time or equipment available for your use. Availability is measured in how often these things break and how long it takes to become available again. A server, router, or changes that would strike again in a few minutes, fall below the five Nines reliability.

They have a serious problem and may take 15 or 20 minutes is not fall below 99.999% reliability again but under 99.99%.

Give you an idea what the meaning of the various tests, some of the following examples:

99.9999% (Six-Nines) did not allow access only for 32 seconds or less of downtime per year 99.999% (Five-Nines) allows access for 5 minutes and 15 seconds or less of downtime per year 99.99% (Four-Nines) allows access for 52 minutes, 36 seconds or less downtime for the year 99.9% (Three-Nines) allows access to up to 8 hours, 46 minutes or less of downtime per year 99% (Two-Nines) allows access for 15 days and 3 hours 40 minutes

To get access to more reliable and more costly to the equipment. That means also, not just buy the best equipment, but also easy to repair and build redundancy.

In addition, make sure that all components of the same rating. How much help, if your main server equipment has a 99.999% reliability, but some elements in the server, such as network interface cards (NICs), only 99% reliability.

It is also important to ask how much reliability is needed, because the reliability will come at a premium price / cost.

When offering services, such as assessment of customer needs 99.999% reliability, or maybe they can live with 99% reliability, since then you can choose when you take a network service, or offline for maintenance, because that is also considered as part of the need to access your account.
